{"id":978,"date":"2005-05-03T17:34:11","date_gmt":"2005-05-03T22:34:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/austin.metblogs.com\/2005\/05\/03\/get-your-theater-on\/"},"modified":"2005-05-03T17:34:11","modified_gmt":"2005-05-03T22:34:11","slug":"get-your-theater-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thechunk.com\/blog\/archive\/get-your-theater-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Get your theater on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Get Your War On with Rude Mechanicals\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/austin.metblogs.com\/photos\/theatre.gif?resize=259%2C108\" width=\"259\" height=\"108\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"5\" hspace=\"5\" \/><br \/>\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austinist.com\">Austinist<\/a> kids <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austinist.com\/archives\/2005\/05\/03\/get_your_war_onstage.php\">beat me to it<\/a>, but I just noticed this afternoon on one of my periodic checks of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnftiu.cc\/mnftiu.cc\/home.html\">David Rees&#8217;s site<\/a> that a staged adaptation of his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnftiu.cc\/mnftiu.cc\/war46.html\">Get Your War On<\/a> strip is being performed locally by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rudemechs.com\/\">Rude Mechanicals<\/a> theater collective. It started this past Thursday, but runs another two weeks. I&#8217;m not sure how well Rees&#8217;s hilarious strip will translate to a live stage setting, but the results should be interesting at the very least.<\/p>\n<p>I saw Rees speak at Alamo Village at the Texas Book Fair just before last fall&#8217;s national elections. He was damn funny, if a bit overconfident that the election would turn out differently than it did. I&#8217;m all for anything that promotes that strip, so go check it out. You&#8217;ll be supporting him and local theater in one event.
