There’s a computer recycling event on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd from 9am to noon at Spansion (formerly the AMD campus), 5204 East Ben White Blvd. Austin, TX 78741. There’s a printable flyer available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Round2 Technologies will sell or recycle all donated items and the proceeds will be donated to Austin Free-Net<\/a>. They evaluate the donations for usability and resale. Non-working equipment has the marketable metals and parts removed and the dangerous lead and mercury in monitors and other computer equipment are safely recycled.<\/p>\n

So, you can save the environment, get rid of that 486 DX\/66 that’s been cluttering up your office and help get more technology and services to those who need it and can’t afford it themselves. You know it’s the Right Thing To DoTM<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

There’s a list of what they will and won’t take after the jump.

\nAcceptable Items:<\/p>\n

– computers,servers and mainframes
\n– telephones and cell phones
\n– circuit boards, IC’s
\n– drives, networking equipment, testing equipment
\n– memory
\n– printers, fax machines, copiers, scanners, monitors
\n– solder dross, nonferrous metals<\/p>\n

Not Acceptable:<\/p>\n

– Televisions, VCRs, DVD players
\n– Refrigerators or other appliances
\n– Paper, wood, ferrous metals, non-computer plastic
\n– any hazardous solid, liquid, or gas
