Coop thinks this is ok as it’ll bring Devo to the new masses. I disagree. I don’t really have a problem with Devo making money off this, but I think that if The Kids are going to get into Devo, it needs to be the original, not some Disney hack job complete with crappy videos. Maybe if they came up with some original videos for the songs using the kids, I might be a little more amenable. And I still remember my friend Kirk’s sixteen-year-old brother driving like a maniac in their mother’s car and blasting “Peek-a-boo” at an ungodly volume. I think he’s setting up clinics in the Ivory Coast now or something.
Good god. This is going to give me nightmares, I think. Did you look at the bitchin’ photos of the band? Do these kids honestly think they’re translating Devo’s irony and inherent anarchy to the masses by covering a song like “Beautiful World”??? I can’t believe Gerald Casale produced this. Sad, sad, sad. Next thing you know Disney’s going to put out a “Re-Clash” or worse.
