Ok, so the Alamo’s in San Antonio, but 5000! from the LA Metblog tried Google mapping “hollywood sign” and got the expected results. The only landmark nearby that I could come up with was “The Alamo“.

  1. Texas State Capitol
    University of Texas at Austin
    Auditorium Shores
    Camp Mabry
    frost bank tower

Lots of stuff that’s fairly unique is on there.

  2. Crap. I tried “Texas Capitol” and a few other permutations, but didn’t add “state” when I tried it.

I think UT falls into the same category as “the alamo”, “hollywood sign” and “statue of liberty”, but I think the other three you mentioned are a little different. They match entries with addresses. You get a zip and possibly other information with those. Or not. I’d be curious how Google handles them. It’s still pretty cool and not something I’d tried before.

  3. This won’t be a popular choice here but Kyle Field pops up.
