It looks like they totally screwed up the US DVD release of Let The Right One In (Icons of Fright via io9). The subtitles are simplified and lose a lot of the nuance of the film, something you already have to fight against when adapting a book to the big screen.

This is a big mistake. I was considering buying a copy, but now I’ll wait until a better version can be found. If I have to, I’ll buy a non-region 1 dvd to get the right subtitles. This is just dumb, dumb, dumb.

  1. That’s so sad. This was a small movie with very limited release, and deserves a chance on DVD to find its audience.

  2. I don’t think it’s that bad. I mean the differences are small and don’t change the content of the movie. The dialogue is simplified and that is very common in subtitles. You couldn’t have all the words translated, because you’d never get it in in time. Subtitles are by its basic nature meant to be a shortened dialogue with the most important information in it. And these subtitles do that. There is no point in getting upset. The translations are literal and good, even if they’re different than the theatrical release.

Besides the US DVD release is the only to feature the deleted scenes which I think is a great asset. So no big deal crying about a few lost words here and there. The story is there and the film is great, plus the extra material make it totally worth buying this particular release
