101X has been in my morning commute rotation for years. I like to pretend that I can still keep up with what “The Kids” are into these days while spending most of my time hanging out on KUT like a proper old person. You remember Sara and Jen, right? Weren’t Trina and Ben in there somewhere?
Jason Dick has had the morning spot for the past few years and did the show with Mike as his straight man until a couple of weeks ago when Mike disappeared. I noticed on Friday morning that all of the ads were now plugging Jason and Deb, the Brit who had been getting more and more air time over the past year or so (I want to say that she’s the show’s producer as well). There’s no mention of Mike’s departure on their blog, but I guess the powers that be decided that Deb was more profitable than Mike, so Mike’s out. I IM’ed Jason today and he confirmed with regret that Mike’s gone.
I find it strange that 101x simply wipes all traces of a DJ from its site and promotional materials and moves on like the person never existed instead of posting something acknowledging the change. Weird.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
That is the way that the radio and TV biz works. One day you are here and the next day it’s like you never existed.
A long time ago at WABC in NYC (then Top-40) Harry Harrison had been doing mornings for 15 years. Then one day when Harry was on his way to work the PD met him at the door of the station at 5AM with all his personal effects packed in boxes. WABC never said a thing about the most popular morning man in the USA leaving. Right or wrong that is the way it has always worked. I should know it happened to me enough times till I got sick of the biz and wisely got out.
Tim – my sentiments exactly. I too find it strange that radio stations don’t acknowledge when someone leaves. I suppose it make senses. They probably don’t want to advertise that they let someone go because they weren’t rating well.
I remember the days of Ben and Trina and Sara and Jen. I always liked those duos, and I think the new team is pretty comparable.
I’ve had Sirus for about 6 months now. I was driving the non-Sirius family car last week and was forced to listen to FM. My god, what a wasteland. I found the most entertaining on-air folks to be on La Ley, and I don’t even speak Spanish. KLBJ-FM apparently hasn’t gotten word that Bad Company doesn’t plan to release another album. Admittedly, 101X is the least excruciating in terms of playlists, but the on-air talent there is just as cheap and un-entertaining as it is all over terrestrial radio. The end is nigh.
There’s no doubt that commercial radio sucks the big one in general. It always has. I’ve been tempted by satellite radio, but I just can’t quite get with buying the hardware and paying the monthly fee ($20 a month at least since The Wife would want it too). If my commute gets any worse though, I may have to consider it.
I’m still relying on CDs and how much I can stand from KUT, 101X, KOOP and a few others. I think KLBJ should just change their call letters to KSRV. How many times a day do they play Stevie anyway? 5? 10?
Commercial radio has sucked less at times. K-NACK was great when I moved here. Even 101X sucked less right after they absorbed some of those folks.
True. Gibby’s show on 101X was good stuff. Of course, something that good had to be canceled.
As people have mentioned, terrestrial radio is crap. You get what you pay for.
I thought the morning x was bad when mike was around, but now it is excrutiatingly bad. Absolutely horrible and unlistenable. Jason and Deb are atrocious together and the sooner they can them, the better. Do it for the children!
