Hungry? Bored of the same old crap for lunch? Well, Dot’s Place is back to a permanent location after nearly two years.
The restaurant was destroyed by fire in October of 2004. The new location is in the Windermere Shopping Center in Pflugerville near FM 1825 and Pecan Street. If I’m reading the map right, that means she’s now east of I-35 and a little north of the old location which was near Howard Ln. and Burnet Rd.
Jon L. reminds me that today is One Web Day, a celebration of everyone’s favorite series of tubes.
Austin is celebrating tonight at 7pm at Café Mundi, 1704 East 5th Street.

By now you’ve all heard that Willie Nelson got busted a few days after ACL in Louisiana (why is it always Louisiana or Florida?) for drug possession. Others have pointed out that this has to be the easiest bust of the year. Congratulations to Louisana’s finest.
Anyway, Smoking Gun has a shot of the contraband, check it out. Kelso of the Statesman also weighed in on the world’s easiest drug bust today.
Don Walser, local country musician and yodeler extraordinaire, has died of complications from diabetes according to News8Austin.
Don hadn’t played out for several years. I’m guessing it was due to his health. He had a recurring gig at Emo’s back in the late 90’s, introducing “the kids” to some good old fashioned country music and yodeling with his Pure Texas Band. I saw him there a couple of times. He always had a smile and was a very personable guy. His death is a loss for the Austin music scene. He’ll be missed.
Markos Zuniga of Daily Kos fame will be in town tomorrow promoting his book, Crashing the Gate, and getting his drink on. He debuted the book back in March at SXSW.

Odd that the signing is at Monkeywrench which is a few doors down from the original Parlor location, but it appears the drinking afterwards is at the new location at 43rd and Guadalupe, which isn’t really within walking distance. I guess the new location has more space? I haven’t been there yet.
One of the benefits of being part of a network of worldwide, city-focused, sites is that when something significant happens, either positive, negative, or something in between, there’s someone there to lend a local perspective and add to what you’re hearing from the mainstream media.
Last week, it was the shootings at Dawson College in Montreal where Montreal Metblogger, Jay, who works in the print shop there, gave his first person account.
Today, it’s coverage of the coup in Thailand from Bangkok metbloggers Daniel and Bonafide, whose post yesterday foreshadowed today’s events.
The wife and kids arrived at ACL just after the noontime downpour. They checked out the kid area and The Boy sampled The Black Angels and Husky Rescue at my recommendation. It was his consolation for having to miss The Raconteurs the day before. He liked Black Angels better than Husky Rescue. The Wife thought the opposite. I would’ve liked to have seen Husky Rescue. We noticed the beach area had been improved from last year, complete with misting fans and tents to provide more shade than the umbrellas that were available the past few years. I think after the blistering temperatures last year, they heeded the complaints of festival-goes with kids and added much needed heat relief for the little ones.
