It appears that the switch of 104.3 from Urban/Hip-Hop to All Talk didn’t last very long. Last July, Beat 104.3 became The Coyote, an all talk format with Howard Stern in the morning, followed by some Comedy Radio compilation show, Don & Mike, Russ Martin, and Tom Leykis. I noticed last week that the Beat had been resurrected (hopefully they’ll find the time to fix that godawful web site).

It appears that Howard Stern remains in what is now a somewhat peculiar hybrid station. It may be the best of both worlds. Austin couldn’t really afford to lose Beat 104.3, but their morning stuff left a lot to be desired. I found the rest of the Coyote line-up annoying at best and I can only stand Stern in small doses unless I’m interested in the guest.

Kuff passes on a meme that I can’t pass up. List the movies on IMDB’s Bottom 100 that you’ve seen.

Here goes:

I was actually surprised at how few I had seen and that I had seen most of them in the theater. I’ve seen bits a pieces of some others on the list, but I didn’t count them because I didn’t see them in their full glory.

The list seems skewed to more recent films. I know there are a ton of candidates for the bottom that aren’t on there. Here’s a few that immediately come to mind for me: Lorenzo’s Oil, Backdraft, Freejack, Phone Booth, Howard the Duck, A.I., and Batman & Robin. I saw all but Batman & Robin in their entirety. Over the past 10 years or so, I’ve been filtering my movie watching so much that now, if it’s remotely bad, I just don’t see it.

A new exhibit opened last month at the LBJ Library called Signs of the Times: Life in the Swingin’ Sixties. The Wife checked it out last week and deemed it worthy of a visit. I hope to make it out there while my mother-in-law is in town for the next couple of weeks. The exhibit boasts monitors running TV shows from the era and also comedy clips of Woody Allen and Bill Cosby from early in their careers. The exhibit is open daily from 9am to 5pm and admission is free.

Today’s my three year blogaversary. I switched to this format on January 19, 2002 and started posting some stuff.

Some things have stayed the same.

  • We’re still in the same house.
  • I’m still at the same job.
  • We still have a chimp for a president.

Other things have changed:

  • I’m now a father of two.
  • My paternal grandmother is no longer with us.
  • We’ve joined the minivan cult.
  • I’ve started playing drums in a gigging band again.

Most of the changes have been chronicled here in one way or another. My posts have become more political and more outwardly-focused as opposed to targeting a readership of family. I’ve made several cool friends via blogging and started participating in a group blog.

I’m hoping to have the time to add some stuff this year. I’ve got one project that I’ve been wanting to do for several years and should finally have the time this spring or summer. I’m still also seriously considering splitting off all of the family stuff to a separate site and keeping this one for my interests/rants. I really, really need to re-design the band site. If you followed the link, you know why.

Anyway, happy blogaversary to me!

The good news is that we finished having the entire exterior of our house re-painted. The bad news is that I have to go withdraw the money to pay for it and hand it over today. Oh well, it’s just money, right?

I must say that the house looks kick ass. For those keeping score at home, the house is now Kelly Moore Lemongrass with a Seattle Red door. I highly recommend the crew that did the work for us. They kept within the estimate and did some extras that I wasn’t expecting. They not only did the house, but painted the railings on our front porch a lovely black to replace the worn -looking black that they had become. They unexpectedly painted the garage doors as well to match the new exterior color. I didn’t think of this, but it makes sense and looks great. Since we had contracted the paint crew through a carpenter we had gotten as part of our new roof, I also had the carpenter fix the threshold and exterior door to our backyard which we pretty much haven’t used since we moved in over 6 years ago. As part of the painting, I chopped down a tree of moderate size that had grown up too close to the house and the garbage people amazingly took it this morning.

Yep, it’s been a good week for house karma. Once we get a decent portion of this improvement paid off, the next step will be to replace the carpet in the downstairs living areas with hardwoods.

I haven’t been paying much attention, but the Huygens probe is set to land on Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan, early tomorrow morning. The JPL site has all kinds of cool stuff. I can’t wait to see the images. I need to show all of this to The Boy.
