This would rock. McCain became my hero after his last appearance on The Daily Show. If I’m not mistaken, they’ve currently got the video of the appearance linked on the right side of the page under "Celebrity Interviews".
I found this article on unlocking your Nokia GSM phone via BoingBoing. It worked on the first try. I don’t travel abroad much, but I might have a need to purchase a pre-paid SIM at some point. It’s kind of stupid that you have to go through hoops to use a phone as it was originally intended. I just love sticking it to THE MAN when he tries to keep me down with his overpriced international roaming fees.
I stopped by our local elementary school on the way to dropping The Boy off at his school to do my civic duty. I’m lucky enough to still have a chance to be represented by Lloyd Doggett despite the redistricting shenanigans last year. I’m hoping he pulls it off.
As usual, all of my choices in the democratic presidential nominee race have dropped out before I had a chance to have my say. Sigh. I voted for one of them anyway. If the kids aren’t too crabby tonight, I may go back after the polls close and check out the delegate allocation process. I’m not too keen on Kerry, but I’m definitely in the "anybody but the current administration" camp. It’s time to send The Shrub on a permanent vacation to Crawford.
Some of you may or may not be aware that I take care of most everything for the Casino El Camino bar website (except the design, for which credit goes to Jessica). Those of you that have visited the site may have noticed that it’s been unavailable since just after Christmas. It’s a long story, but the domain registration expired and Casino and I weren’t able to get ourselves together to save it before it went on the open market. It was registered by a company who’s intentions are unclear to me at the moment. I’m currently attempting to get in touch with them.
This is especially bad timing with SXSW hitting this week. As a first step, I’ve registered casinelcamino.net and will be running the site from there for the foreseeable future. If we do manage to re-acquire the .com domain name, I’ll just forward the .net name.
Of course, this little change will cause problems for those trying to find the site from the old address, so I’m asking those that read this blog and have the means to link the new address wherever reasonable. I’m not asking people to go out of their way and overdo it, but a few blog posts here and there should help the new name out.
Thanks for your support.
We were out early this morning with a trip to Krispy Kreme. We also needed groceries and, once we found out they open at 9am on Sunday, we first sidetracked to Academy for some cones (practice soccer goals for The Boy), a new bicycle/ball pump and a fourth folding chair since LaLa and The Boy are fighting over the small one at his games. The morning went smoothly until we hit the checkout line at the HEB in Hancock Center. Among the soy milk, baby food, chocolate chip cookies, and orange juice, I had also decided to grab a 6-pack of lovely St. Arnold’s Amber for dinner tonight. It was 11:30am when we hit the line (you native Texans know where I’m going with this).
As the checkout girl started to scan our stuff, she zeroed in on the 6-pack and asked me, “That’s alcohol, right?” “Yes,” I replied. She then proceeded to remind me that it was Sunday and before noon. I had forgotten about the dreaded Blue Law, no alcohol sales between 1am and noon on Sunday. It’s so rare that we’re shopping that early, I had completely forgotten. Now that I’ve been reminded, why haven’t we repealed this dumb fucking law yet? The so-called Blue Laws have been slowly falling by the wayside over the years and it’s time to dump this one as well. Who’s with me?
