I took Halloween pictures this morning on the way out the door with both the Fuji and my Nokia. I posted the Nokia shot to the moblog before we even got to school. I just got a notification from Textamerica that they picked up the shot and added it to their Halloween moblog. Kinda cool. He’s on the main page at the moment, but may get pushed to another page as more people submit stuff.

We’ll do the trick-or-treating thing and take more pics tonight. Look for them later this weekend.

I posted a picture of the kids at a pumpkin patch on Saturday on the moblog. We picked one out for Stepan and Jennifer’s annual pumpkin carving party on Sunday. Check out the photos taken with Stepan’s new camera. He took individual shots of the finished products. This one is ours.

There’s a midwife rally this Thursday at 5pm on the south lawn of the Capitol. Work permitting, we’ll all be there. You can get more information here.

The rally is basically to support access to midwives in all settings: home, birth center, and hospital. Access to midwives in hospitals here in Austin was severely limited last year when both Brackenridge and Seton lost support for midwife managed births for various political and financial reasons. For those that are unaware, The Boy was delivered by a midwife at a birth center (which is now a craft store) and The La was delivered by another midwife at our house.

Kuff responds to Bush’s Australia speech. Right on.

There’s new Baby Chaos as well.

Finally, we’re preparing for Halloween. The Boy’s gone from wanting to be a pirate to Stitch to Spider-Man to finally, Jango Fett. We got the costume this past Saturday. The La is supposed to be Maid Marion to Mateo’s Robin Hood with Jesse and Griffin as his Merry Men. I haven’t seen her costume yet.

Tim Thompson, whom I used to work with at IntelliQuest and Ruhul dubbed “Buddha” for his quiet nature and even-temper, has created a photo essay on redistricting. If anyone needed clarification on how the Republicans have chopped up Austin in an effort to gain more seats at the expense of Texas voters, this makes it crystal clear. An extra special thanks and hugs for Gov. Perry, David Dewhurst, Tom DeLay and the GOP.

The La’s birthday on Saturday was a quiet affair with Jaja in town to help celebrate. We got a cake with lots of frosting for the required one-year-old covered in frosting birthday pictures which I’ll get around to posting sometime this week. The La got a Rock, Roll & Ride Trike from Jaja and Grandpa Steve along with a Loveable Lily. She got the english version of Lily, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere, so I linked the Spanish version. We’re going to have to return the trike as the handlebars won’t attach to the front fork of the trike. It seems the plastic was molded poorly on the one that we got. Mateo has an assembled version which you can see in the baby chaos photos from last week. They decided to let The Boy and the babies play in the rain with some interesting results. We got her a ball tower similar to the one that Henry has, but this one allows you to hit a button that shoots the ball up a tube, across a bridge, and then down different ramps and towers depending on which gates you have open. I couldn’t find a picture online. Both The Boy and The La got into that toy.

Update: New pictures of the week from The La’s birthday are up now. Enjoy.

Emmy-award winning The Daily Show (a.k.a. The Greatest Show on Television) last night joked that the movie Predator is apparently an abundant source of governors as both Ah-nuld and Jesse "The Body" were in the film and speculated that we may someday see a Governor Carl Weathers or a Senator Predator. I’d like to point out that they were both in Running Man and the unbearably awful Batman and Robin as well, which gives us such candidate possibilities as Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, Jim Brown, Mick Fleetwood, Dweezil Zappa, Richard Dawson, George Clooney, Chris O’Donnell, Uma Thurman, Alicia Silverstone, Elle Macpherson, Vivica A. Fox, and Vendela Kirsebom.

Speaking of Daily Show, I found this piece by Walter Cronkite on John Ashcroft via Daily Show fan, Lisa Rein’s site.

When we were home over Labor Day, The Wife and my sister found a couple of old pictures of my dad that I had gotten from my grandmother several years ago. I thought they had been misplaced in one of my many moves, but they were at my parents house all along. I finally got a chance to scan them in last night over at a friend’s. I’d really like to get at all of the other old photos and do the same thing. Yet another project that I don’t have enough time for. Coincidentally, we got the prints back from The Boy’s school photos yesterday as well so I scanned them too.

My father is about three in the photo on the left and The Boy is about a year older in his picture: two pictures taken nearly 60 years apart. I’m not sure what’s up with that weird smile that The Boy’s sporting.

I also scanned in another photo with (from left to right) my Great Uncle Tim, whom I’m named after, Uncle Ken, my dad’s younger brother, my dad, who’s about 10 in the photo, and my cousin Bob, Tim’s son. It’s very Norman Rockwell, I think. It was taken on Staten Island circa 1953.

So, Ah-nuld is governor-elect of Kalifornia and the Red Sox and the Cubs are still in the running for the World Series. Has anyone checked the temperature in Hell lately?

On a much more personally annoying note, it appears that the presidential primaries in Texas could get bumped a week due to the redistricting fiasco. This means that it is likely that once again, the democratic nominee who will run against the Shrub will be chosen before I get a chance to have my say. The republicans will, of course, blame the delays on the democrats running to Oklahoma and New Mexico, but since they still can’t decide on their own map and they had all of that time to agree on one, I don’t think they have much of a leg to stand on. F*ing politicans.
