I’ve just added this site to GeoURL after seeing it over on Stepan’s site. I’ve also added another block on the left for all of those nifty link buttons that people are crazy about. The first addition will lead you to GeoURL and show you the sites based near me (of course, the physical location of the sites themselves are probably somewhere else).
There’ll definitely be new pictures this weekend as Eeyore’s is tomorrow and today is The Boy’s play with his Tiny Thespians class. He’s the Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz. He’s got two lines, so hopefully he’ll remember them.

I found this on wileywiggins.com. For those of you that are unaware, I grew up in Richardson and my parents still live there. One more reason that I’m glad that I don’t live there anymore. The kid in the article is only six months older than The La and more than a year younger than The Boy was when he finally weaned completely. The fact that this case ever got an indictment from a grand jury is absolutely ridiculous. Scary. Very scary. The Wife hasn’t seen this yet, but I’m sure she’ll flip when she does.

I was lucky enough to invited along to the Foo Fighters show last night in San Antonio and lucky enough to have a wife who was willing to deal with kids while I did the RAWK thing. The seats weren’t too bad, back right corner from the stage just off the floor. Those that had tickets to the general admission floor had to get a wristband in order to gain access to the floor. We arrived just before the Transplants went on. They’re sort of a punk rock supergroup with Travis, the drummer from Blink 182, and Tim from Rancid/Operation Ivy. As one would expect, they sounded a little like Rancid with some extra Clash thrown in and some rap for good measure. They weren’t very remarkable.
During the Transplants set, we noticed that people were going down to the front row of the bleacher seats and simply walking onto the floor. After watching about 20 people do this and stocking up with a few beers, we decided to go for it ourselves, fully expecting to be the only people to get caught. We walked down without any hassle from security and our mediocre seats turned into standing about 20 feet from center stage as the Transplants finished their set. By the time the Foo Fighters started, I think there were more people on the floor without wristbands than with them. Surprisingly, the place wasn’t totally packed, so the extra people weren’t a problem.
The Foo Fighters’ stage set looked very similar to the set that you see in the “All My Life” video and that video does a good job of conveying what the show was like. You can check out the set list here. They played a pretty good mix from their four albums. “Everlong” was clearly the crowd favorite and their last number. The sound was good and the band was tight. I saw them in late 1995/early 1996 on tour for the first album at Austin Music Hall and was less than impressed with the performance. This time they managed to have an arena-type rock show and still keep the small club feel. Good time. Good show.

I spent the majority of the weekend with The Boy and The La while The Wife OD’ed on Kriya yoga. We went to the park both Saturday morning and Sunday morning for several hours each time. The La is a big fan of the baby swing while The Boy spent most of his time on the “big kid” swing and the monkey bars. He used to be afraid of even going up the ladder, but now he’ll make it about halfway across before dropping down. The La’s first tooth is really coming in now with more on the way. She’s moving around by rocking back and forth while sitting. Sometimes she ends up rocking too far forward and doing a face plant or goes backwards and hits her head on the floor. We’ve been keeping her on the carpet with her a few pillows around her to soften the impacts. She managed to scoot herself to the coffee table and I watched close by as she tried to pull a large book down on top of herself. I kept moving her back to a safer area and she kept scooting herself back to the table, determined to give herself a concussion with that book.
I remarked to my dad that she looks like an autistic kid with all of the rocking and that triggered a memory for him. Apparently, my sister used to a similar move when she was an infant and he called it “schizo-rocking” at the time. I guess it must be a sex-linked Trentham gene as neither I nor The Boy did it. I don’t think The Wife did it either, but we haven’t asked her parents. If Mark is reading this, perhaps he can tell us if Laura ever did it?
Anyway, those looking for pictures will have to wait until the weekend. We’ll most certainly take several at Eeyore’s on Saturday. If you go back through The Boy’s picture of the week archives in late April/early May, there’s almost always an Eeyore’s picture.

There doesn’t seem to be too much evidence so far of weapons of mass destruction, but American troops are apparently uncovering evidence that Saddam wishes he were The Hef circa 1970.

That’s right, The La is 6 months old today! It seems to be going by very quickly. She’s cutting a tooth and is pretty much able to sit on her own now. I suppose we can expect crawling and pulling up by the end of the summer. I guess it’s time to lower the boom on The Boy about leaving his toys around on the floor.
On a totally unrelated note, The Daily Show last night was absolutely hilarious. Dennis Miller was the guest and he’s apparently been saving up a lot of material because he was non-stop. I was crying because I was laughing so hard. We recorded it on the DVR. Too bad there’s not an easy way to share it from there. Perhaps they’ll put it up on the website.

In other news, we went to a parent information meeting for the new UT Charter School that is to open in east Austin this fall. We’ve put The Boy’s name into the lottery and will find out April 28th whether or not he’ll be accepted to their pre-kindergarten class in August. They scored the principal from Zilker Elementary. She seemed nice and very together. Cross your fingers for us.
