We’ll be gorging ourselves on turkey and watching the Mavericks try and extend their 13-0 start to beat the record of 15-0. There’re new pictures of the week for both Henry and Lily. Hope all those travelling have a safe trip.
I was bored at lunch and decided to check and see if there was any more news on what Page Hamilton of Helmet is up to. It appears that he’s finally gotten his act together and formed a new band called Gandhi (horrible name, wonder if there’ll be any lawsuits?). Anyway, there’re samples of three of the songs on the site. I can’t wait for the album.
The La still isn’t sleeping much more than three hours at a time. The Wife and I have taken to sleeping in shifts. I go to bed around 10pm and am up around 6am while she goes to bed around 1am and is up around 10 or 11am.
We’re in tire replacement hell. The Wife’s car pretty much needs an whole new set of tires while mine needed an emergency set of two this weekend. Apparently, the car was out of alignment and wore the inside of the front two tires down to the belts. I didn’t notice since it wasn’t actually pulling to the left or right. We took care of my car since it’ll be the one that we take to Dallas for Thanksgiving.
I went to see X on Friday night at Emo’s. I hadn’t ever seen them live and it was the original lineup (John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Billy Zoom and DJ Bonebrake). Mary insisted that I go since she had seen them already and who knows when or if they’ll ever come again. It was a great show they played most of their well known songs with the exception of one of my favorites, “I See Red.” Emo’s was completely packed.
Our local cable company has launched a new Digital Video Recorder (DVR) service similar to TiVo or ReplayTV. I’ve found a little more info on a TiVo discussion board. I went and picked one up on Friday.
It’s not as full-featured as TiVo, but it’s cheaper and everything is tied through the cable company instead of having to use another service. Our initial experience with it this weekend has been pretty good. I’ve had trouble recording two programs at once, so I need to look into that some more. I also made the mistake of turning the cable box off this morning, which screwed up some things that I was unaware that Mary was trying to record. Being able to record any show at any moment is a definite plus. We were watching an episode of Ed, Edd n’ Eddy that we particularly like and were able to record it with the press of one button. The pausing of live tv will definitely come in handy now that we have two young children. I’d be interested in finding out if there is a local discussion board for this particular service. I haven’t checked the newsgroups yet.
There’s a new Halloween edition of the picture of the week for both Henry and Lily. Mary and I have been “taste testing” Henry’s candy to ensure that it’s “safe”. He and I went trick-or-treating downtown with his preschool, then we hit several blocks in the neighborhood while Mary and Lily greeted trick or treaters at the house. There were quite a few people out tonight, more than I expected.
