I was reading something today that mentioned a quote by Jerry Seinfeld in an episode of his show. I had forgotten about it and it struck me as funny today.

All fathers are intimidating. They’re intimidating because they are fathers. Once a man has children, for the rest of his life, his attitude is, “To hell with the world, I can make my own people. I’ll eat whatever I want. I’ll wear whatever I want, and I’ll create whoever I want.”

It’s from the episode with Lawrence Tierney as Elaine’s father. Most people know Tierney as Joe, the gruff mastermind of the heist and Fast Eddie’s father in Reservoir Dogs. He died this week.

Now that The Boy’s hair has lost most of its curls, we went for a shorter haircut. The Wife didn’t go and it ended up a little shorter than planned. She wasn’t too happy

I was driving The Boy to daycare this morning and had to unleash an SBD halfway there. A minute or so after doing it, I hear from the back of the car, “You stinky, daddy. It stinks.” I look back there and he’s holding his nose. At first, I’m impressed that he deduced it was me, then I’m annoyed that he assumes it was me. I tell him that I’ll roll down the window to get rid of the smell. I cracked it about 1/4 of the way down. The next thing I hear from the back, “Open it more.”

Doh. It’s bad enough that I have to deal with The Wife’s complaints, now I’m getting critiqued by a person who only recently stopped shitting his own pants.

Finally checked out Ironworks BBQ today after living here for 12 years. The building and location are nice, but the food was mediocre. Coopers in Llano and Kruesz in Lockhart are still the two best BBQ places in central Texas.

It was a really nice afternoon here, so we took The Boy to Zilker, then came home, opened all the windows and hung out in the front yard.

I got this gift card in the mail for Borders as part of buying a new cell phone. It was burning a hole in my pocket, so I decided to go over there yesterday and be a good consumer.

Before I went, I browsed a little at their online store (which is basically Amazon now with some different branding). I’ve been buying online for a while, but never really compared the prices with brick and mortar.

Some of the books are 40% cheaper online. The same book from the same company.

Who in their right mind would actually pay full price for a book these days? The trade-off between getting it in your grubby little hands immediately and waiting a few days to save money even WITH the cost of shipping is a no-brainer.

Most of you will say, “Duh!” and I guess I was already aware of this, but I never really THOUGHT about it and compared the prices directly.

In other news…

Dee Snider has gone respectable.

We went to Cyberworld 3D this morning at the IMAX theater in the Bob Bullock museum. It was a bit of a sensory overload for The Boy. He was fine at the beginning, but had to sit in The Wife’s lap about halfway through. The whole thing is really just an excuse to show off the technology and I must say it is quite impressive.

We just had a small celebration with Jaja, Nana and the three of us. The Boy got Atlantis on DVD, some books, Disney CD’s, a LeapPad and a Hot Wheels car wash among other things.

That’s right, the chunk is now 3 years old! It’s hard not to resort to the cliches. My how time has flown. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. yada yada. Anyway, here’s hoping that it’s a fun one for him. I’ve still got to go out and get him something. Doh!
